Mike Benfield was injured Friday, August 6th, around 11:30 PM after he hit a deer near his home while riding his bike. Mr. Benfield is a retired NC highway patrolman. Initially, he was up talking with the local EMS but his condition worsened on his way to the local hospital. He was later airlifted to Mission Hospital where he had surgery for internal injuries.
At the printing of this article (Aug. 10), he was in a medically induced coma while his body heals. I heard about this Tuesday evening at our local bike night but didn’t see the article in the local paper (The Daily Courier) until this morning. See Comments

Pastor Mike Wilson from our local Freedom Biker Church in Candler has dropped in for a visit and prayer with Mike and his family. Mike needes our prayers asking for a quick recovery and healing. He has some serious internal injuries. Pastor Wilson enjoyed his visit with this Christian family and is confident the Lord knows them and will continue to pour His Spirit upon them. We will continue to visit and praise God for this man’s life.
Lori, Mike’s wife has called to ask for prayer for Mike. He is in rm 425 of the ICU in Mission. His full status is still unknown. I am expecting another call from her later this evening.
I met with Mike’s wife and daughter tonight and enjoyed a prayer with them over Mike. His surgery went well, and he is still in a lot of pain with the number of broken ribs he sustained, but he is getting better. Hope to spend some time getting to know him better when he gets moved out of ICU. Keep praying for his speedy recovery.
Great visit with Mike tonight. Mike was up, joking, smiling and thanking God for all His mercy and grace. Mike is in a standard room at Mission and may be going home soon. We thanked God for this man’s life and everyone is grateful for this quite healing. Mike has a way to go, but everyone has the faith that God has His healing hand working with Mike. Praise Him.
I can never say thank you enough for all the prayers that went out for me and those that dropped everything to come to the aid of my wife and daughter. When you are in a coma, you can’t pray for yourself. I had only been back from a mission trip in Guatemala about 35 days when this wreck happened. Having retired from the NC State Highway Patrol, I have worked hundreds of deer wrecks over the years. I just never worked one with a motorcycle and a doe deer. I would not have thought they could do so much internal damage to a bike rider. I am finally back to about 100 percent of my (prior wreck) physical condition. No more rehab or meds. It has been a long journey, but I owe it all to GOD and others dedicated to helping others in need. I lift each one of you up in prayer as you go forth each day, and wish you many blessings in your lives. May someone cross your path this week that you are able to share the love of GOD with. Mike
