Scott Russell and his wife Barbara from King’s Mountain, NC; had enjoyed riding their bikes on the Park Way. They exited onto US 74 and were heading west toward Asheville in the left lane with Scott leading the way on his Screaming Eagle Ultra and Barbara following on her Heritage. Scott realized that they were heading the wrong way, put on his left turn signal to turn around and head east toward Chimney Rock. As he slowed and made his turn, Barbara was struck with such force that it severed her left leg below the knee.
Barbara was taken to Mission Hospital E.R., where she underwent surgery on her leg and was placed in ICU. During the hours that went by as Doctors and Nurses were taken care of Barbara, many of their family & friends came to support them.
On Sunday, Barbara was taken off the breathing tube and her overall condition was greatly improved. She is being moved to A-518 tonight. Her mother has now come in from Ohio to be with her.
Scott & Barbara Russell are people of faith. Scott and every one of their family & friends I have talked with are very open & friendly. We have prayed together many times. Reported by Tom Simpson – SFFS
